Carleton Women in International Security General Meeting

The Women in International Security (WIIS) Chapter at Carleton will be holding their first meeting on Tuesday, November 5 at 6pm (room TBA) for all those interested in joining the Chapter. This is a great opportunity to connect with peers in the field of international security and to join the WIIS-Canada network!

At the general meeting, the mandate, events, membership, and executive committee positions will be discussed. WIIS will be holding several exciting events in process for this academic year and are looking to fill 4 Executive Committee positions: Vice President of Internal Affairs, Vice President Social Affairs, Vice President of Finance and Vice President of Communications.

What does a WIIS-Canada membership provide?

WIIS-Canada is a national network that brings together practitioners, researchers and supporters of the advancement of women in the local and international peace and security sector. The network aims to enhance the potential of its members by opening doors and offering valuable resources including, the WIIS-Canada Mentorship Program, access to internationally renowned professionals in the field of peace and security, and participation in the Annual Workshop. To learn more about the organization see WIIS Canada’s website (http://www.wiiscanada.org/about/…)

What is "international security"?

We define international security broadly to include a range of disciplines such as conflict resolution, human rights, military and government policy, international law and political science.

Is this group for women only?

Although WIIS is dedicated to promote women’s leadership in international security, this group is not just for women, and everyone is welcome and encouraged to join!

For more information about joining the chapter, email Co-Presidents Fatimah Elfeitori and Catherine Carbonneau at wiiscarleton@wiiscanada.org, and check out the Facebook event  for more information about the meeting.
